Hiking The Grand Canyon

Wondering what is the best time of year to hike the Grand Canyon? We’ve found the best time is either late Spring or mid-late Fall. The temperatures are more moderate which makes hiking a lot more comfortable. You miss the intense heat of the summer which can make hiking dangerous and you miss the chance of a sudden snow fall. The best way to hike the Canyon is to use the Kaibab Trail for your descent and the Bright Angel Trail for your ascent. If you’re in great shape you can take the Kaibab both ways.

Make sure you’re prepared to hike even if you’re only going to hike a short distance. You need water and good hiking shoes. I’ve seen so many people that come to see the Grand Canyon just for the day and end up hiking down a mile or so. They don’t have water and often times they are wearing sandals or some business shoe as opposed to a good hiking shoe.

You’ll see these people struggling to hike out. Be prepared and be smart and you’ll have a very enjoyable hike in the canyon. Take your time, rest often and enjoy the scenery. After all, you’re in one of the most beautiful canyons on the planet.
